Official Opening Day Logue Brook Dam 13th December 2008

The Save Logue Brook Dam Action Group would like to extend an invitation and welcome everyone back to the shores of Logue Brook Dam to celebrate the official opening by The Hon. Colin Barnett MLA and Murray Cowper MLA.

It promises to be a fun filled family day out with a sausage sizzle, ice cream van, demonstrations by the West Australian Show Skiers, some WAs best up and coming Wakeboarders, as well as ski tube rides for the kids. We may even see our very own Premier take to the water on a set of skis which will be auctioned off later on in the day.

So please come on down and show your support for the reopening of Logues and for the WA Liberal Party who not only honored their election promise but also supported the Save Logue Brook Dam Action Group Inc throughout the course of the campaign.

Kick off time is 11.00am Saturday 13th December 2008 and will be held at the Logue Brook Ski Club designated area (see below map for directions). Please remember to Slip, Slop, Slap and bring some shade if you can.

See you there.... Save Logue Brook Dam Action Group Inc

Logue Brook back as place to play

20th November 2008, 6:00 WST

Logue Brook dam is set to be reopened for recreation on December 1 but the State Government has backed away from its pledge to take drinking water from the popular South-West swimming spot.

Labor outraged locals when it banned water skiing, fishing and swimming at the dam in May as part of a multi-million-dollar deal with private irrigator Harvey Water to boost potable water supplies by 5GL by 2010.

Premier Colin Barnett promised before the election to allow recreation at the dam but said it would also be used as a "future potable water source". The promise would have overturned a decades-old WA rule which bans dams being used for both.

Outspoken MLA Murray Cowper revealed yesterday Water Minister Graham Jacobs had told him Logue Brook was set to reopen for recreation.

Recreation, Sport, Tourism Alliance spokesman Mike Wood said the single use policy should be changed.

Who will remove all the rubbish left behind

Being a local I am pleased that the dam is open to recreational activities again. I called in there yesterday to take my dogs for a swim. I was aghast to see how much rubbish that has been left behind by the people who frequented the area over the festive season. There are broken shade tents left behind which some of the ski people obviously had no more use for after some of the strong easterlies we have experienced recently had demolished them. Broken bottles around camp sites and fires. Bags and bags of rubbish have been just left behind for somebody else to remove. Cardboard boxes strewn about. You people know who you are, you had enough space in your vehicles and boats to bring in the rubbish, why not take it back with you instead of leaving it for the wildlife in the area to be poisoned with or maimed with. I was under the understanding that PWC were only allowed if towing a skier. Obviously this is not the case as they seem to think that the below 5 Knot speed restricted areas are for their personel use and abuse. Clean up your rubbish and follow the simple rules otherwise I am sure this area will once again be lost as a recreational facility. Distraught Local.

We Agree

The Save Logue Brook Dam Action Group could not agree more with the above comments. After working tirelessly to ensure West Australians could once again recreate at Logues we are disappointed that a minority of the public not only displayed a lack of consideration and respect to keep Logue in its current pristine condition, but also the contempt for the opportunity we have been given and our hard work. It is true that if we cannot take ownership and responsibility for areas such as Logue then they will be closed to the public indefinitely. The Save Logue Group are engaging with Government departments to ensure adequate facilities are installed and procedures are in place to deal with unacceptable practices. The Liberal Government has also pledged to match dollar for dollar any revenue/donations we raise to assist with upgrading facilities and management of the dam and its surrounds. If you are able to assist in any way please contact us at info@saveloguebrookdam.com. Please enjoy the opportunity you have been given to ensure Logue is open for many generations to come. Regards, Brad Barton VP

Can't wait to get back to "THE DAM"

After over 30 years of skiing at Logues I was gutted when they closed it, now I can't wait to head back down, clean up the van, and get back into the great life that Logues has provided me with since I was a child. I'm sure that all of us long time semi-permanents and all the day trippers will join me in thanking Peter, Brad, Murray Cowper and everybody else (you all know who you are) who was involved in the Save Logue Brook campaign. Lets hope it remains open for many generations to come. Craig Stocker.

Good on ya boy's and gals

Good on ya boy's and gals that saved logues. We all have a big thanks for you and and all the hard work you have put in over the last year or so. It's back to good times.

Cant wait for Logues to

Cant wait for Logues to reopen!! What an answer to prayer for the locals that have grown up with this great facility on their doorstep and more importantly for our next generation! Long live democracy, common sense and the Liberal gov!!

Reopening of Logues

Spoke to Murray Cowpers office Thurs, they advised me the decision on Logues would hopefully be made public Wed 19-11-08 as it was to go before Cabinet Mon 17-11-08, and the word was for an opening to all watersports including waterskiing before Xmas. We'll wait and see ah Jason

NO boats please

I want to go and camp with my kids knowing that they are safe having a swim or a paddle without some idiot half full of piss flogging around them in a boat. Im not keen on being woken up at 5am to the sound of boats screaming up and down the lake just because the water is better for skiing. And then ALL DAY until dark. Tuff if your going for a quiet weekend away with your family. What other watersports can you do safely if your dodging boats? No peanuts please

Get a grip you peanut! If you want to go somehwere with no boats so you can have a safe swim or a paddle then go to Hamlin Bay, Dunsborough, Jurion Bay or a local swimming pool! This is a designated ski area in a relatively small dam. There are but a limited few places that facilitate waterskiing in calm waters in WA. Conversely, there are numerous places you can go in WA to swim and have a quiet camping experience...why dont you go to one? Instead, peanuts like yourself campaign to have areas such as this kept under lock and key to conditions that only suit yourself. Get a life, and dont be such a selfish narrow-minded individual...have you ever considerred your kids might like you buy a boat and take them skiing?

NO GRUMPY PEOPLE PLEASE

Logue is a designated ski area!! If I want a quiet, romantic night out for dinner with my husband, I don’t go to McDonalds. If you want a quiet location to stay and you don’t like being surrounded by boats, don’t go to Logue - simple. (Besides, I think 5am is a bit early for us “idiots” to get up and “flog around” in our boats, when we are all still “half full of p***” from the night before) – sarcasm intended.

RE No Boats

If you do not like the boats then find somewhere else to go. There are so many other options YOU have but unfortunatly the number of ski areas are getting less and less.

Can't wait to go for board

Can't wait to go for board and kick back enjoying a beer on the foreshore the paradise we know as logues. Be there in January for good times, laugh. The Palmers

Can't wait to get back to Logues for the 32nd yr

I'am only 32yrs old and have been going there since I was a baby. I was pregenant last year and could'nt go for a ski I was disapointed that it was closing. My 2year old loved it last year and I am sure my 7 month old would too. Looking forward to getting out on the fresh water and also kicking back enjoying a beer.

logues

dont make too many plans. i heard on abc radio that they are considering a no powerboat clause like at wellington dam. so they will open the lake for recreation but not skiing. that way it is easy to treat the water for dual use. hope you can paddle fast
